Our Cancer Registrars support the health networks, hospitals, clinical trial/pharmaceutical companies and physician groups that utilize our services to manage the cancer registry, support the cancer program and maintain the cancer registry database and reporting requirements for their organization. With nThrive, you will have the support of over 200 CTR colleagues across the nation as you support activities to successfully meet the standards set by the American College of Surgeons/Commission on Cancer such as helping to prepare clients for surveys, conducting medical record analysis, data abstraction and overall data managements


  • Develops and maintains a working relationship with clients as needed.
  • Completes all assigned reviews for current colleagues, new hires and billable clients.
  • Obtains access to facility records and abstracts, including remote access when appropriate.
  • Performs representative random selection of cases for reviews.
  • Enters review results in appropriate reporting tools.
  • Reports review results to QA Manager, ODM Services or directly to colleagues, clients and managers as appropriate for the assignment.
  • Discusses review findings with colleagues and managers.
  • Participates in New Hire Abstracting Skills Assessment by answering any questions and scoring the assessment, provides feedback and develops education recommendations for the colleague, reviews results with colleague and manager, and reports results to QA Manager, ODM Services.
  • Discusses review findings with client or QA Manager, ODM Services, as appropriate for the assignment.
  • Develops education recommendations for colleagues who score below the nThrive ODM QA accuracy rate goal.
  • Partners with the QA Manager, ODM Services to develop, deliver and monitor action plans for colleagues who do not meet nThrive’s quality threshold.
  • Assists the QA Manager, ODM Services in developing educational presentations.
  • Coordinates with new clients and managers to assist in training of nThrive ODM colleagues assigned to the project.
  • Conducts subsequent reviews for colleagues who do not meet nThrive’s quality threshold once the colleague has completed the recommended education.
  • Responds to client, colleague and manager questions concerning the QA process and results.
  • Participates in required conference calls and meetings.
  • Assists in maintaining the ODM QA Answer Forum to answer colleague questions regarding abstracting guidelines or application.
  • Attends educational conferences as requested.
  • Maintains certification and NCRA membership, as well as appropriate state association memberships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.


  • Certified Tumor Registrar, 3 – 5 years relevant experience with 1.25 hours per case productivity and 95% accuracy rate.
  • Prefer at least 2 of the last 3 years abstracting experience in a CoC approved or SEER registry.Must pass PET with 85% or higher score.
  • Knowledge of the FORDS data collection requirements, MPH Coding Rules, Collaborative Staging Manual & Coding Instructions, ICD-O-3, Hematopoietic Database & Manual, SEER Program Coding & Staging Manual, NCCN Guidelines, and AJCC Staging Manual 6th & 7th editions.
  • Knowledge of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries Standards.
  • Commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current and changing abstracting guidelines.
  • Experience with multiple cancer registry software systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings including with clients, colleagues and partners.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Computer knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills

  • Remote abstracting experience and experience as a traveling consultant a plus.
