Overview

The Benefits Manager is a key member of the Total Rewards team and is responsible for the overall administration, communication and compliance of colleague benefits programs for nThrive. The successful candidate thrives in a collaborative team environment, driven to perform at a very high level, possesses strong problem solving and customer service skills, and is passionate about leading change and staying on top of benefit trends and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Director, Benefits determine long-term strategy for benefits and continuously evaluate all benefits plans to ensure they are cost effective, competitive, and meet the needs of both the company and colleagues
  • Ensure administration of all colleague benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, life, disability and 401(K) is managed appropriately and that vendors are held accountable to expectations
  • Analyze and project costs for all benefit programs, using analysis to make recommendations for changes to benefit plans and design

  • Determine appropriate ongoing communication strategy to educate colleagues on benefit programs and changes. Education should ensure colleagues understand benefits and available resources
  • Assist with all Federal, state, and local compliance, filings, reports, and audits related to the administration of colleague benefit programs, including ERISA. Ensure all plan documents and Summary Plan Descriptions are complete and updated, 5500 Filings are filed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Prepare 401(k) discrimination testing data and participate in annual plan audits
  • Prepare, review and track all benefit-related expenses and invoices on a regular basis
  • Create and administer colleague Wellness Programs designed to motivate colleagues in fun and innovative ways to participate in maintaining and improving their health
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Operations Team (HROC) members to ensure their ongoing benefits knowledge base is relevant and up to date. Provide tools and FAQs as needed to ensure they are equipped to respond to Tier 1 benefit inquiries
  • Serve as an escalation resource for colleagues on all benefit issues
  • Works closely with the HRIS team to provide strategic direction on HRIS benefits system functionality requirements, and ensure integrity of the data is maintained at a high level
  • Identify and implement improvements in conjunction with HRIS team to ensure benefit activities and processes are efficient
  • Regularly prepare and monitor audits reports related to benefit deductions in coordination with payroll; submit adjustments as needed
  • Determine appropriate benefits metrics to develop and track on a regular basis. Metrics should be based on key performance indicators to determine successful benefits performance
  • Participate in M&A activities as it relates to benefits, including benefit comparisons, transition strategies and alignment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business or similar field.  5+ years of HR benefits administration experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience understanding and using HRIS database systems; prior experience with UltiPro preferred.
  • Experience with M&A activities, and comfortability with integration work in a fast paced environment
  • Proven experience in managing filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting colleague benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, SECTION 125
  • Excellent analytical skills including advanced spreadsheet capabilities in Excel (v lookups, pivot tables)
  • Leadership and teamwork skills with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to drive a variety of projects from start to finish
  • Process improvement oriented and the ability to make recommendations and decisions.
  • Flexible and proactive problem solver adept at achieving results in a team oriented and collaborative environment, but also able to function effectively working independently.
  • Demonstrated success in a dynamic, leanly staffed, frequently changing and fast paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong internal and external customer focus.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong working knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (e.g. Ultimate Software, ADP) including strong report writing skills.
  • Microsoft products including advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook required.
