  • Overview

    Under the general supervision of the Patient Business Services Manager, the Financial Access Coordinator reviews all financial assistance programs, accounts receivables for collections and assists patients with questions regarding charity and collections.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide superior customer service and maintains a professional image.
    • Reviews all financial assistance applications initiated by site Patient Access Counselors. Interprets patient’s ability to pay and suggests financial assistance adjustments to patient accounts receivables and/or patient payment plans based on financial assistance applications, credit scores, individual tax returns and other applicable documentation.
    • Reviews all accounts receivables for collections, with focus on high dollar balanced accounts.
    • Verifies insurance information to identify the correct insurance carrier and plan code assigned to insure accurate billing and Managed Care statistics. Enters the information gathered into the computer system. Identifies and communicates insurance plan updates to Patient Business Services Associates Insurance Rep for inputting into insurance master.
    • Insures compliance with regulatory regulations: COBRA/ EMTALA, Medicare Secondary Payer screening, Advance Beneficiary Notification, Important Message, etc.
    • Provides patient education concerning Advance Medical Directives, Organ Donation, Patient Rights, regulatory requirements and financial policies.
    • Perform face to face interviews with customers at client site to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
    • Calculates patient share and requests payment including balances from previous visits.
    • Establishes payment method of patients’ deductible/ co-payment amount.
    • Research if patients have other open unresolved accounts and include the unresolved accounts in payment method.
    • Documents all conversations with patients, insurance company representatives, precertification notification representatives, and results of collection efforts.
    • Prepares oral/ written status reports.
    • Adheres to client safety and confidentiality standards

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • At least one year of experience in customer service within the last two years.
    • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with a customer and simplifying complex information.
    • Demonstrated ability to navigate Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office.
    • Experience working in a role that requires prioritization of multiple critical priorities while ensuring quality and achievement of performance metrics.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed performance metrics.

    Preferred Skills

     

    • Knowledge of commercial and government insurance plans, payer networks, government resources, and medical terminology.
    • At least one year of healthcare customer service experience.
    • Proficient with federal or state government agencies including Social Security, Medicaid or Charity Care, or healthcare accounts receivable within the healthcare revenue cycle touching patient accounts.
    • A thorough understanding of commercial and government insurance plans, payer networks, government resources, and medical terminology.
