  • Overview

    The Coding Services Manager (CSM) is responsible for all facets of coding colleague management including scheduling, monitoring performance metrics, coaching and counseling; performance evaluations, disciplinary process deployment and HR coordination.  The role assumes responsibility for the daily account management of a specific client base, ensuring client satisfaction and retention, monitoring financial performance and labor costs against contract specifications, coordination of training for new coders, assisting with timely technical set up between client and colleague and serving as an integral role in the QA function including client and colleague communications related to quality results. 

    Responsibilities

    • Manages the nThrive coding program for each assigned client within in Coding and Client Audit Services line of business.
    • Interacts frequently with current and potential clients, colleagues, coding and senior leadership.
    • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with assigned clients.
    • Reviews financial data in conjunction with DRCS and/or VP of Coding and Audit Services to ensure account stability and profitability.
    • Participates in the transition process from sales to operations for new coding clients.
    • Leads new client go-lives to ensure smooth transition including timely completion and continual maintenance of internal documentation.
    • Provides administrative and technical support for all nThrive colleagues as assigned.
    • Works closely with the Coding Resource Coordinator and Talent Acquisition to identify and select the most appropriate coding resources for clients.
    • Supports the interviewing and hiring process when needed.
    • Coaches, counsels and conducts performance evaluations to meet outlined critical metrics in coding colleague performance, recruiting, addressing performance issues, off-boarding/separation and retention.
    • Prepares client action plans in response to areas of identified concern, including quality and productivity issues.
    • Participates in numerous weekly Coding Services calls for client status updates, weekly management updates, etc.
    • Develops and conducts monthly coding service colleague calls to include pertinent announcements and updates.
    • Serves as user subject matter expert for various IT initiatives related to nThrive technology.
    • Prepares weekly status and other client-related reports as required, including quarterly steering committee reports.
    • Attends educational conferences as requested.
    • Supports nThrive’s Compliance Program by demonstrating adherence to all relevant compliance policies and procedures as evidenced by daily practice and participation in the annual Compliance educational l module and quiz; notifying management when there is a compliance concern or incident; demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of patient information; promoting confidentiality and using discretion when handling patient information.

     

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Active Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
    • 3+ years of experience in health information management in at least two different acute care facilities with direct management of coding workforce of greater than 9 employees with strong emphasis in coding operations as Coding Manager or Supervisor.
    • Working knowledge and basic understanding of coding guidelines and other associated principles for various types of coding including inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery, emergency department.
    • Working knowledge of various prospective payment systems, revenue cycle and DNFB management.
    • Demonstrated proficient computer knowledge with exceptionally strong skills in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to travel for an occasional business meeting.

    Preferred Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in HIM or related field.
    • Coding credential from AHIMA or AAPC.
    • Prior experience as a Director of Health Information and/or Assistant Director/Operations Manager and/or managing a health care business or operations with direct responsibility for colleague communication and management.
    • Working knowledge and basic understanding of coding guidelines and other associated principles for professional/technical fee coding.
    • Working knowledge and basic understanding of coding guidelines and other associated principles for various types of coding such as Medicare Advantage (HCC), Hospice, Home Health, DME.
    • Previous consulting and/or vendor experienc.
    • Experience working with various HIS and EHR systems; CAC exposure.
    • Experience with leading remote webinar sessions.
    • Coding compliance and auditing experience.
