The Director, Patient Financial Services is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating revenue cycle and patient financial services functional areas within the client system by guiding it’s revenue cycle initiatives. This role will lead billing, collections and all account receivable operations for the client.  Collaborating with other key leaders within nThrive as well as the client, this role will identify opportunities to improve efficiency and delivery, ensuring client satisfaction. This role will be accountable for driving results in the areas of denial management, uncompensated care, AR day reduction, and overall AR management metrics to achieve revenue and margin goals. Critical responsibilities include maintaining current knowledge of revenue cycle best practices, setting annual and periodic goals for effective revenue cycle performance, and ensuring these goals are consistently met or exceeded.


  • Contributes to the annual planning process to aid in establishing strategic objectives and performance measures used to gauge progress with the client.
  • Monitors client revenue cycle processes through management reports, reviews and audits to ensure the quality of billing systems and processes provide for maximum reimbursement and cash flow.
  • Leads and develops a world-class revenue cycle organization through strategic hires, mentorship, automation and establishing a culture of accountability, teamwork and success.
  • Accountable for achieving client SLA’s and improving client level EBITDA.
  • Directs improvement initiatives and the implementation of process; coordinates improvements with departmental leadership and vendors as appropriate.
  • Promotes a service-oriented culture and assures client satisfaction with the quality of the AR services performed and feedback provided.
  • Responsible for reporting any detected trends in payments or denials, as well as procedural problems, to the client.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the correction of these trends and/or problems.
  • Manages relationships with external vendors (i.e. Middle and back end strategic partners), including reviewing vendor performance and ensuring issue resolution when necessary.
  • Directs and oversees Business Office partners through management of performance against contracts, service level agreements and industry best practices.
  • Establishes and tracks key metrics for project success such as: imports, bills, touches, untouched accounts, productivity, quality, collections, etc.
  • Establishes productivity monitoring for billing and collection follow-up staff to maximize resources and results.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of all patient financial and healthcare related issues and regulations.


  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 6+ years’ experience in the healthcare industry, including 3+ years’ experience leading revenue cycle operations.
  • Hands-on experience and oversight for the billing, follow-up, cash application, and customer service areas, including the ability to represent the revenue cycle at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid understanding of the revenue cycle industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of AR services drivers in a healthcare system / IDN setting.
  • Execution-oriented and able to thrive within a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong financial acumen; ability to develop budgets, forecast revenue, develop early warning signs and adapt the organization to achieve financial targets.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills with the ability to facilitate and influence decisions by motivating others to achieve excellence in both the quality of work and their approach to teamwork.
  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Solid knowledge of all MS Office Products.
  • Amount of travel required - Moderate (depending upon client location).

This includes: becoming familiar with nThrive’s Code of Ethics, attending training as required, notifying management or nThrive’s Helpline when there is a compliance concern or incident, HIPAA-compliant handling of patient information, and demonstrable awareness of confidentiality obligations.

Preferred Skills

  • Masters degree in Business or Healthcare concentrations.
